Being Sick + Being Pregnant = NO FUN

Last night I started getting a headache.  I thought nothing of it as headaches are a normal part of pregnancy.  It wasn't until the headache got so bad I couldn't move or sleep that I thought something was really wrong.  I have not really slept since getting up at 7 yesterday.  Every time I move I get a sharp pain in my eyes, forehead, and ears.  I didn't know what to do.

I am now 17 weeks pregnant so my first instinct was that something was wrong with me or the baby.  I called the doctor this morning and they said it sounded like a sinus infection.  I needed to see my regular doctor as soon as possible to get my hears and everything else checked out.  The nurse I talked with said that if my fever got to 101 I would need to go to the ER as this could be dangerous for the baby.  Up to this point I had had no fever.  I laid down for a while and when I sat up I felt chilled and took my temperature.  It was 100.8.  That scared me and I decided at that point I needed to get an appointment with a doctor.

A few hours later I got up the nerve to call our local CareNow clinic and get in to see them.  Within 20 minutes I was in the office and waiting on test results.  The Doctor told me that both my ears were red and full of fluid.  She thought that was all it was, but because I am expecting she ordered a Strep Screen and a CBC. After waiting for what seemed like forever I was told that I indeed had strep and that my white blood count was very high.  I was given a shot of antibiotic and sent home with another antibiotic to take for 10 days.  Let me just say, that shot....HURT!!  It was given in my hip, the actual shot doesn't hurt but the medicine is brutal.  So now in addition to a headache and a fever I know have a very sore left hip.

Normally I would be taking about 3 Aleve and knocking this pain out, but I can't do that with the baby inside.  I get to take one regular strenth tylenol every four hours which does nothing.  I know that I will get through this and have a story to tell the baby when "she" is born.  (I'm still determined that I'm having a girl)  I am keeping up with everything in my journal so one day she can look back and see what she put me through!

Thank you for all the kind words and prayers today.  I look forward to blogging to you about the happier parts of my pregnancy, but as many of you know not every aspect of pregnancy is good.  The end result is totally worth everything I am going through though!

How Well Do I Know Chris?

I was playing around on facebook and saw a friend that had posted this list of questions to see how well you know your husband.  I am going to post it here and I hope that my husband will comment and tell me how I did.  Sit back and enjoy, you might even learn something!

1. He's sitting in front of the TV, what is on the screen? He would be watching a show to "learn" The History Channel, Military Channel, Discovery...

2. You're out to eat; what kind of dressing does he get on his salad? Either Ranch or Italian

3. What's one food he doesn't like? Meatloaf

4. You go out to eat and have a drink. What does he order? Sweet Tea or Dr. Pepper

5. Where did he go to high school? The same place I did, Bryant High School

6. What size shoe does he wear? It really depends on the shoe.  Around a 12

7. If he was to collect anything, what would it be? LOL, this one is weird and funny.  He would collect (and does) the valve covers on airplane tires.  You know, the things that keep the air from coming out of the tire.

8. What is his favorite type of sandwich? Turkey

9. What would this person eat every day if he could? Seafood

10. What is his favorite cereal? Thats hard, he doesn't really eat breakfast.  I guess it would be Strawberry Mini Wheats

11. What would he never wear? A skirt

12. What is his favorite sports team? He's not a huge sports fan but he loves seeing UT (Texas) kick some butt

13. Who did he vote for? Do I seriously need to tell you that, He is very open to the fact that he voted the right way.  For McCain

14. Who is his best friend? Jake (me?)

15. What is something you do that he wishes you wouldn't do? Nag

16. Did he play sports in high school? We were in band and marching season was a sport, I don't care what you say! He played no other "sports" though.

17. What could he spend hours doing? This should say "what does he spend hours a day doing" and the answer would be playing on his many computers.

18. What is one unique talent he has? hmmm. He can fall asleep ANYWHERE.

My 14 week update

Good morning and Happy July!

I am officially 14 weeks pregnant! That means I am out of the much hated first trimester and I am happy to report that things are looking up!

According to the pregnancy application added to my blog I have 36 weeks,  18http://cbs11tv.com/1 days, or 4,344 hours until delivery. After looking at that stat, I prefer to count the weeks.  When you say 181 days or 4,344 hours it sounds SO far away!

As I said earlier, I am feeling much better.  About a week and a half ago I started being able to eat.  With that said, I still have no appetite.  I am having to force myself to eat.  I am hoping that the appetite returns soon. On a positive note we have saved a lot of money at the grocery store only having to feed Chris and Jordan the last 3 months.  On the flip side...In a few short months we will make up for those savings by adding a beautiful mouth to feed. With the sickness and loss of appetite I actually lost 14 pounds in the first trimester.  This is a normal thing and the Doctor is not concerned.  It may actually turn out to be a positive because I had that 14 pounds to lose!

Many people have asked me if I'm showing yet.  It is so hard for me to tell because I had a pretty good gut on me before.   It is hard to tell if that gut has turned into a baby gut or not.  Once I feel like I am actually showing I will take a picture and show you the baby bump!

That is all I have for you right now.  Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers over the last few weeks.  They are felt and appreciated!
